Together: Week 2

Together: Week 2

Two of Jesus’ closest friends were Peter and John. However, what made Peter and John recognizable to others as Jesus-followers was probably not how they talked, how they dressed, or what Bible verses they could quote from memory. No, what really set them apart was their courage and boldness. Where did that courage and boldness come from? Well, they had the power of Jesus’ Spirit for one. But that wasn’t all. They also had each other.

Peter and John were able to rely on another’s courage and feed off one another’s bravery to say and do things they likely wouldn’t have been able to do alone. Is there something God wants you to say or do this week? Talk to a trusted friend, parent, or Small Group Leader about it. You might just walk away with the courage to follow through.

Together: Week 1

Together: Week 1

When a group of people are united, does it mean they all think and feel the same things? Not at all! Just like a great sports team isn’t made up of identical people with the same skills, unity among believers doesn’t mean everyone’s identical. Unity just means that everyone is on the same page, working together, and encouraging each other toward the same goal. Where one is weak, another is strong. When one is hurting, another heals. That’s unity. Unity doesn’t mean losing all that God made uniquely you. Unity is bringing all that’s unique about you to the table.

In fact, Jesus prayed for unity. In John 17:20-23, Jesus, just minutes before getting arrested, prays that all Christians would be one. We know that if Jesus prayed for something, it must be important. Why do you think unity is so important to Jesus? Why do you think the church has lost its unity over the years? What is one thing you can do this week to bring unity to your small group, your school, and our CHS community? ~ Jason Lollar

The Greatest - Week 4

The Greatest - Week 4

Have you ever felt like following God was too difficult to do alone? How is anyone actually supposed to follow God’s commands and live the way he wants us to live? Thankfully, God doesn’t ask us to follow him without help from him.

In fact, it’s impossible to live for God without Jesus. When we begin a relationship with Jesus, we let go of our ways and embrace his. He lives in us, guiding our decisions, thoughts, and actions. Remember, you’re never alone when you’re following God. But even though God is always with us, it sometimes feels like he is the furthest thing away. How can we get closer to him?

Well, what does it take for you to get close to someone? Maybe you share your deepest secrets, maybe you give them most of your time, or maybe you just talk to them more than other people. Did you know that God wants this kind of relationship with you, too? God wants to be close with you. Today, come closer to God through prayer. Maybe you can share something with him you never have or spend time talking to him for the first time in a long time. He might not feel close right away, but over time his nearness will become more obvious.

The Greatest - Week 3

The Greatest - Week 3

You are worth everything to Jesus. In fact, he gave up his life just so we would know how much he loves us. This is real love. This is the kind of love that we can’t find in other people, pleasures, or possessions. This is the greatest love we can ever know. This is where we find our value.

No matter what you look like, act like, or talk like, you were created in the image of God. In other words, you were created to reflect a little bit of who God is. Yes, we can definitely choose to ignore this, but it doesn’t change this truth. And this means that God created you exactly as you are to reflect who he is to the world. When we experience God’s love, we’re reminded of just how much we’re worth. Today, ask God to remind you of how much you’re worth to him. Allow his love to be what validates and proves your value. You were created on purpose for a purpose.

Freedom is a tricky word. I think we all enjoy freedom. One of the perks of getting older is increased freedom. Later curfews, more driving privileges, increased access to technology, and less supervision are all perks of getting older. But what is freedom, really?
