FAQs

How do I become a member?

There are four components to becoming a member of Calvary Church:

1. Completion of the Discovering Series

2. Attendance for one year at Calvary Church

3. Baptism as a believer

4. Serving at some level at Calvary or your local community

Upon completion of Calvary's membership process, candidates are officially received and celebrated as members at our New Members' Luncheon. Contact Cindy at 215.723.0963 ext 113 for more information.

Is baptism required?

Baptism is not required to attend or serve at Calvary Church, but we do encourage all believers to be baptized. If you decide to become a member, believer's baptism is required to complete that process. Click here to find out more.

Do I have to be a member to get involved? Serve?

No, you do not. Most volunteer service opportunities are open to members and non-members. The leadership does encourage membership for those functioning in a teaching role. All those serving in an elected office, like an elder, must be a member.

How can I get connected?

Calvary is committed to providing many opportunities for people to connect with others through ministries such as: Adult Bible Fellowships, Women’s Ministries, Men’s Ministries, and the Sports Ministry. Check out these ministries on our website for descriptions and details.

Another way to get involved is through volunteering. Calvary provides many opportunities for people to serve which provides not only an outlet for your gifts and passions, but puts you in close proximity with others. Service opportunities are promoted in the weekly bulletin.

Many people also find connection with others in less formal ways. Allow for some additional time in the atrium between services to make some connection with others.

Please remember connecting is a process that takes a different length of time for each person. It also involves more than Calvary Church. It involves you. So when you are ready to connect, get out there and try something. And if you find you need help, feel free to call the church office.

What kind of church is this? To what denomination does Calvary belong?

Calvary Church is an interdenominational Christian church uniting people from diverse backgrounds (Catholic, Protestants, the spiritually curious, skeptical, etc.) into a loving church family. Calvary is a place designed to serve both Christians and those who are spiritually curious.

Calvary Church is a safe place for people who are looking for answers to their spiritual questions and want to check out Christianity without anyone pressuring them. It's also a place where those who have decided to follow Jesus Christ can learn and be encouraged in their spiritual growth. No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, you can come as you are.

What does the church believe?

Though non-traditional in style, Calvary Church is deeply committed to the eternal truths of the Christian faith. Our vision is simple: to become a biblically functioning community of believers so that Christ's redemptive purposes can be accomplished in this world. Our mission is equally clear: to help people become fully-devoted followers of Jesus Christ. To view our statement of values and beliefs, click here.

Our desire is to be a place where people discover the love of Christ, where God’s timeless truths are obeyed, where needs are met, and where heart-felt worship, prayer, genuine relational community, and compassion for those in need are evident.

What is there for my children? Students?

Our children’s ministry, KidZONE, provides an exciting, quality experience for your children birth to sixth grade. Our children’s classes are held simultaneously with adult services every Sunday. We encourage you to take your children to their age appropriate classes. They’ll have more fun in their KidZONE class than in an adult worship service! These programs allow you to maximize your worship experience in our adult services while your children are receiving high levels of care and attention.

What should I wear?

We’re more concerned with meeting your real life needs than with what you wear. You’ll find everything from jeans to suits on a Sunday morning, whichever an individual is most comfortable with, but most people dress casually.

What can I expect in a service?

Calvary Church might be a little different from what you’re used to in a church. Multimedia, contemporary music, and practical messages aimed at real life issues are used to present the timeless truths of Scripture in a relevant way that is easily understood by spiritual beginners and seasoned followers alike.

Both of our identical services last an hour and ten minutes. When you attend, we don’t make you say anything, sign anything, give anything, or single you out. Though we do take an offering, we don’t want anyone to feel obligated to give—the service is our gift to you! For security reasons, we do require some basic information if you decide to send your children to one of our classes.
