Working behind the scenes...
A Servant's Heart
Working behind the scenes, doing seemingly small tasks with a smiling face and a joyful heart. To most it would be natural to desire and even think we deserve the spotlight. In the heart of a genuine servant, it is God doing the work through them and their lives being quietly blessed at the thought of being used by Him. It has been said, "Amazing are the things that can be accomplished when people don't care who gets the credit."
One example is the honest yet profound sense of serving shared by a member in our congregation who wishes to remain anonymous. "I believe that my participation as a servant is my way to worship God. My ministry humbles me and allows me to lean on the strength of the Lord. I use gifts I have been given, but I am in no way an "expert." I pray for humility every time I serve. I have to because my broken ego can push God out of the picture if I do not. Serving is no different to me than tithing or worshipping in song. It is a way that I can show love to God and others. I do not make connections very well or deeply, and my serving has been God's way of 'pushing me out of the nest.'"
Serving by one definition means to meet a need. Serving lived out is a gift given back to our Lord. It can be tiring, yet exhilarating. It can feel like an insignificant duty, or a calling that fills our lives with satisfaction knowing we have been used.
However you look at it, serving makes a difference.
